Maximum hygiene under demanding production conditions
In food and beverage production, the quality of the control technology determines system availability, product safety, and compliance with legal requirements. Enclosures and control cabinets are subjected to extreme conditions: high-pressure cleaning, aggressive cleaning agents, temperature fluctuations, and high humidity are a daily reality.
häwa develops and manufactures enclosure solutions that withstand these demands—designed for hygiene, with type ratings up to IP69K, and made from materials specifically engineered for use in the food industry. This ensures the availability of your equipment while meeting the requirements of EHEDG, the FDA, and relevant hygiene standards.
Whether it’s a filling system, processing machine, or cooling system: häwa delivers a suitable enclosure solution for every area of your production.

Hygienic Equipment: The Essential Standard for Your Industry
In the food industry, hygienic design is not an option—it is a requirement. Enclosures and control cabinets that are not consistently designed according to this principle pose a risk: dirt buildup, bacterial growth, and corrosion jeopardize product safety and lead to costly production stoppages.
What “hygienic design” actually means
- Surface finishes free of gaps and undercuts – no areas where germs or cleaning agent residues can accumulate
- Smooth, polished surface finishes with a defined surface roughness (Ra ≤ 0.8 µm for stainless steel)
- Self-draining geometries – no water accumulation on the enclosure or mounts
- Corrosion-resistant materials that withstand cleaning and disinfecting agents
- Minimized contact surfaces with walls and surfaces for easy cleaning underneath
We validate all type ratings and resistance specifications in our in-house testing lab—before your product leaves the factory. To learn how we measure quality, visit our product testing page.

The right material for every application
In the food industry, the choice of materials is a critical decision—it determines the cleanability, corrosion resistance, and service life of the enclosure. häwa offers all relevant materials from a single source.
Stainless steel (V2A / V4A)
Smooth, polishable surface finish, excellent corrosion resistance against cleaning agents and acids. Ideal for wet areas, fresh products, and hygienically critical zones. V4A (316L) for environments containing chlorine.
Aluminum
Lightweight, impact-resistant, has heat resistance. Suitable for control enclosures on machines and mobile applications. Anodised surface finishes offer additional corrosion protection.
Powder coated steel
For dry areas and less aggressive environments. Cost-effective, can be custom-colored—including in special RAL shades for your equipment identification.

FAQ
A: That depends on the specific application. For dry areas such as warehouses or packaging zones, IP66 is generally sufficient. In wet areas subject to low- or high-pressure cleaning—such as filling, CIP, or pasteurization systems—we recommend at least IP67, and IP69K for direct high-pressure water jets. Our consulting team can help you determine the right type rating for your system.
A: Standard control cabinets are designed for industrial environments without specific hygiene requirements. Hygienic equipment enclosures, on the other hand, are specifically designed for the food and pharmaceutical industries: They feature gap- and undercut-free surface finishes, self-draining geometries, polished stainless steel surface finishes with a defined surface roughness (Ra ≤ 0.8 µm), and are designed to be fully cleanable—without any accumulation of water, cleaning agents, or organic residues.
A: Yes. In addition to an extensive standard product line, häwa manufactures custom-designed enclosures and control cabinets—based on customer drawings, with special cutout patterns, in custom dimensions, or with integrated components. Mechanically pre-assembled solutions significantly reduce your installation effort during control cabinet construction. Just contact us.
A: For CIP systems that are regularly cleaned with hot alkalis, acids, or disinfectants, häwa recommends enclosures made of V4A stainless steel (grade 1.4404 / AISI 316L). This steel is particularly resistant to chlorine-based cleaning agents and hydrochloric acid, which are commonly used in CIP processes. For less aggressive environments, V2A (1.4301) is also a suitable and more economical option.
A: Standard enclosures and control cabinets from the häwa product range are generally available on short notice. For mechanically pre-assembled or custom-made special solutions, we will coordinate the delivery schedule with you during the consultation—depending on the complexity of the project and our current order volume.
